App Review: Kinect for Anatomy

Researchers have figured a way to use Microsoft Kinect in conjunction with OpenNI and PrimeSense NITE to present a real-time skeletal view of the person standing in front of the Kinect. As seen in this video, such technology has exciting applications for anatomy.

Currently a prototype, medical students will be able to visualize bones, muscles, etc. A “holographic” video chat technology with two Kinects to stream 3D video data across the internet is a huge step forward in medical education.
