App Review: USMLE Microbiology Board Review for Android and iTunes

By Ravish Amin

Supplementing First Aid for Immunology and Microbiology with board review apps challenges students to review a variety of content.

Because microbiology involves reviewing virology, mycology, parasitology, bacteriology, and immunology, choosing the right study resource is pretty important. Pair books such as Medical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple or First Aid with the USMLE Microbiology app for Android which features 400+ questions presented as flashcards written by medical students.

As an alternative, the Case Files Microbiology app by Lange on iTunes has high-yield cases that provide tips on studying and high yield content for clerkships and increasing shelf-exam scores. USMLE-Rx offers the Step 1 2011 Flash Cards on iTunes. Some of the unique features present in the USMLE-Rx app include short answer, fill-in-the-blank, and T/F questions; and a Leitner mode for retesting wrong cards until you answer them correctly.

Try demos first to make sure that you select the right app for your study methods and goals.
