Apps make the heart grow fonder! Well… at least they do for cardiology students. We’ve reviewed three cardiology apps for you.
1. Arrhythmias app – A basic app for most common rythms such as Normal Sinus (NSR), Sinus Arrhythmia Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) , Atrial Flutter (AFlutter), Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT), Atrioventricular Nodal Reenty Tachycardia (AVNRT), Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs), Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVCs), Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia (MAT), Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome (WPW), Ventricular Tachycardia (VTach), Ventricular Fibrillation (VFib), Torsades de Pointes (Torsades), First Degree AV Block, Second Degree AV Blocks (Wenckebach/Mobitz II), Third Degree AV Block, Asystole , Pulseless Electrical Activity. This does not replace your cardiology rotation knowledge but serves as an introduction to common ECG rythms. The app has a simple user interface with a general description of the abnormal rhythm. 2. Cardiac Images app – structures are grouped by Muscle, Bone, Organ, and Blood Vessels based on Gray’s anatomy. The advantages of the app are the integration of anatomy images with labeling of structures. The beating heart images show vascular structures. More information
3. The ECG Guide by QxMD offers more detailed view of ECG with leads and then a diagnostic criteria, advanced cardiology concepts and Ventricular hypertrophy and atrial enlargement, assessment of ischemia, approach to arrhythmias, bradyarrythmias and tachyarrythmias, heart block, content based on national guidelines from AHA/ACCF/HRS plus recommendations for the standardization and interpretation of the electrocardiogram.
